Frequently Asked Questions

Hydration of Light Olefins - Isopropyl Alcohol, s-butyl alcohol

What is the major cause of the catalyst deactivation ?
The primary mechanism of deactivation is thermal desulfonation

Is this deactivation reversible ?
Unfortunately the loss of sulfonic group is permanent. It results in a loss of acid site concentration (total weight exchange capacity).

What is the typical catalyst lifetime ?
It varies from 6 months to almost 2 years. This is very dependent on the operating temperature and the purity of the olefin feeds.
