Methanol carbonylation
Methyl formate
Methyl formate is a versatile intermediate for the production of important C1 chemicals such as formic acid and formamide. The liquid phase methanol carbonylation to methyl formate has been investigated by Snamprogetti with homogeneous sodium methoxides and heterogeneous strongly basic resins. The polymeric catalysts displayed a higher activity than sodium methoxide [Girolamo, Carlini].
