PURIFICATION OVERVIEW
Many different process technologies are available for the purification of chemical compounds. These include distillation, crystallization, stripping, extraction, filtration, chromatography, adsorption, and ion exchange. Ion exchange resins and polymeric adsorbents have found wide use in the basic chemicals and petrochemicals industry as economical means of separating and purifying a large number of different compounds or process streams. In some cases, ion exchange is the only technology available that can produce the desired levels of purity. In addition, the separated or recovered impurities can frequently be recycled, and therefore contribute to waste reduction efforts.
Rohm and Haas continues to assist the chemicals industry by developing more selective and efficient resins that can further increase the purity of products or to develop new purification applications.
